Foster Father Makes Dream Come True
J.T.* was neglected by his mother and ended up in DSS custody and KidsPeace Therapeutic Foster Care in the Aberdeen, North Carolina Office. J.T. was placed in the foster home of Mr. R. J.T. continued to have significant problems with behaviors, outbursts and anxiety regarding his biological family. J.T. also continued to have visitations with his mother, which did not always go very well.
His mother continued to be inappropriate and not follow through with DSS and court recommendations and family plans. After continued abuse during visitations, significant delays in the court system, continuances and an appeal by the mother, her parental rights were terminated. J.T.’s biological father had never been part of his life and had been illusive; it took additional time following the mother's termination of rights until the father's rights were also terminated, leaving J.T. free for adoption.
For the last three years, J.T. had the support, guidance and care of his foster father, Mr. R., but he still needed a family with which he could be safe, loved and cared for. He yearned for a place to call home, from which he would know that he never had to move. Mr. R. was eager to adopt J.T. and make him a permanent part of his family. For Christmas 2008, J.T. received a new last name, a permanent home and a permanent family.
