A New Beginning in Orono: Where Healing Meets Learning

By November 19, 2025No Comments

There’s something deeply hopeful about a new beginning – especially when it’s built on the belief that every child deserves the chance to thrive. Last week, KidsPeace New England celebrated the grand opening of the Orono Learning Center, a newly expanded special-purpose private school that doubles the capacity of its previous location in Old Town. With this move, more children across Maine, especially in rural communities, will have access to KidsPeace’s unique blend of academics, clinical support, and therapeutic services tailored to their individual needs.

The celebration brought together parents, community members, and KidsPeace leaders to mark a milestone made possible by the generosity of donors, advocates, and local partners. Their support, through fundraising, outreach, and belief in our mission, helped transform a vision into a vibrant reality.

“By expanding to Orono, we’re not just creating more seats,” says Rachel Bousquet, Executive Director of KidsPeace New England. “We’re expanding access to a better future for kids who desperately need specialized care.”

This new chapter is a testament to what happens when a community comes together with compassion and purpose. The Orono Learning Center not only enhances educational opportunities for children with special needs, but also strengthens relationships with local school districts, supports smoother transitions for students returning to their home schools, and brings new jobs and economic benefits to the region.

We extend our deepest thanks to all our generous donors whose belief in our mission helped turn the dream of the Orono Learning Center into a reality. As we celebrate this exciting milestone, we also send our heartfelt congratulations to the incredible associates at the Orono Learning Center, wishing them the very best as they embark on this new adventure of transforming lives, one student at a time.
