KidsPeace is continually inspired by the compassion and generosity of those who serve alongside us – leaders who not only guide with vision but also give from the heart. Jodi Whitcomb, Executive Director of Organizational Development and Training, exemplifies this spirit. She established a dedicated fund to support the creation of Oasis Rooms throughout KidsPeace and leads by example, contributing personally alongside other generous donors who believe in their impact. Over the last year, Jodi helped open four new Oasis Rooms at our Bowden campus in Georgia, bringing moments and peace to those who need them most.
Oasis Rooms are thoughtfully designed not only to promote calm and emotional regulation, but also to deescalate moments of tension when a child is feeling distressed. With soft lighting, soothing colors, gentle furnishings, and sensory tools, these rooms serve as a sanctuary for children who need time and space to regroup.
The impact is undeniable: data from the Bowden campus shows a 75% reduction in reported tension levels from the time a child enters the Oasis Room to the time they leave. That’s more than a number – it’s a sign of true healing in action.
“The children we serve carry more weight in their hearts than any child should, and offering them a dedicated place to pause, and truly feel safe, is one of the greatest gifts we can give,” says Jodi. “These Oasis Rooms are more than just spaces – they offer respite. They help our kids feel respected and in control even when their feelings, or the world, feel overwhelming.”
Jodi’s generosity is a powerful reminder that transformative change often starts from within. Her decision to give back reflects not only her deep belief in KidsPeace’s mission, but her unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of the children we serve.
