For many years, the Verna O. Canova Foundation has been a quiet but extraordinary force of compassion at KidsPeace Orchard Hills in the Lehigh Valley. While their generosity is reflected in equipment, furnishings, and tools, its true impact is felt in the moments of comfort, safety, and healing that unfold every single day within the walls of KidsPeace Children’s Hospital.
The foundation once again lifted our mission in a profound way by providing us with the support needed to fund a wide range of much‑needed medical equipment and patient‑care furnishings — the kinds of items that may seem simple, but are essential to providing excellent, child‑centered care.
Thanks to the Verna O. Canova Foundation, KidsPeace Children’s Hospital received:
- A VFC (Vaccines for Children) medical refrigerator
- EKG/ECG machine
- Blood pressure cuffs, replacement cuffs, and Bluetooth connectivity for monitors
- Thermometers, pulse oximeters, stethoscopes, and scales
- A blood‑draw chair
- Nebulizers and respiratory equipment
- Privacy curtains and paper liners
- Overbed tables, a medical stool, a medical trolley cart, and a gooseneck exam lamp
- Replacement vision‑screening cards
- Crutches and medical shears
Individually, these items support daily clinical tasks. But, together, they allow our nurses and clinicians to respond swiftly in emergencies, soothe a frightened child, and create a medical environment that feels safe rather than overwhelming. They help turn moments of anxiety into moments of reassurance, something deeply important for children who arrive at KidsPeace already carrying fear, trauma, or uncertainty.
“The equipment funded by the Verna O. Canova Foundation allows our nursing team to deliver safe, efficient, and compassionate care every single day,” says DeeAnn Cobb, BSN, RN, Director of Nursing at KidsPeace Residential, Community Program, and KidsHaven. “For our patients — many of whom are scared, hurting, or in crisis — having the right medical tools readily available makes an enormous difference in both treatment outcomes and emotional comfort. We are deeply grateful for this support; it truly strengthens every part of the care we provide.”
We thank the Verna O. Canova Foundation sincerely for this essential and deeply meaningful gift, and know that our nursing and clinical staff feel its impact every single day as they care for the children who need us most.
