At KidsPeace, we see firsthand how difficult the first day in residential care can be for a child. Many arrive at our KidsPeace Orchard Hills residential campus carrying their belongings in a trash bag, or worse, nothing at all. It’s a painful reminder of the instability they’ve faced and the uncertainty ahead.
Thanks to the generosity of Day1Bags, a nonprofit organization that provides youth with needed duffle bags and backpacks, we were able to provide the children we care for with their own brand new duffle bag filled with toiletries. These bags offer our children the gift of dignity, comfort, and hope.
These aren’t just bags, but powerful messages of love and humanity. They tell a child who has been through so much that they matter – they are not alone and they are worthy of care.
“These bags are more than just a way to carry clothes or belongings,” says Marcy A. Prior, M. Ed., BCBA, Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Director Community Living, ABA, and Enhanced Programs at PA Residential, KidsPeace. “They represent a fresh start. For our children in at our residential campus, having something of their own – something thoughtfully donated by strangers who care – can be life-changing. It’s a small gesture that makes them feel valued in a world that hasn’t always shown them that kindness.”
We thank Day1Bags for their generosity. To learn more about how you can donate bags to support children in our programs, please reach out to give@kidspeace.org.
