“Say Yes to the Prom”

Silver Spring, Md. – Three KidsPeace foster teens learned what it means to be beautiful inside and out at Thursday’s “Say Yes to the Prom” event at Discovery Communications.

The event, in its third year, aims to boost self-confidence among 40 local high school girls by pairing them with Discovery employees who mentor them throughout the day as they shop for prom dresses and accessories from a large display of donations, receive makeovers and practice walking the red carpet.

Monte Durham, of TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta” once again hosted the event. The KidsPeace youth – Nataly, Leslie and Lidia – were excited and appreciative of the time they spent with Discovery Communications employees leading up to and during the event. Earlier this month, the girls went to Discovery to meet their mentors before the big day.

“Discovery put so much thought and creative energy toward making this event such a lasting and memorable occasion for our children,” said Gina Seyfried, KidsPeace volunteer coordinator. “The therapeutic impact of this event was immense.”
