KidsPeace can help children, families, communities

work through grief, terror after school shooting

SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. – The shooting spree that left at least 26 people dead at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school this morning is the latest in a string of violent crimes in public places over the past year.

For those involved in such horrific tragedies, it is difficult to determine where to even begin the process of working through grief to healing. It’s natural for this type of violence to cause anxiety and fear even in people who were not directly affected.

KidsPeace is here to help children, parents and communities process such a senseless crime. Julius Licata, Ph.D., Director of ParentCentral.Net and TeenCentral.Net, is available to speak about the short-and long-term impact of such events, as well as to offer guidance on how to talk to children about the shooting and help them process what occurred. For interviews, call 610-554-8729.

The KidsPeace Critical Incident Response Team is also prepared to counsel students, families, school staff, law enforcement officials or anyone else touched by this tragedy. For more information on the CIRT or to request their assistance, contact Jodi Campbell at 610-573-3610.

KidsPeace is proud to celebrate 130 years of giving hope, help and healing to children, families and communities. For more information, like our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter @KidsPeace.
